Another outing but this time with a better result. Thursday evening proved to be the best showing that Hakoah members got from Juan Pablo Ángel and the rest of the club as they won 2-0 over regional rival New England to clinch first place in the Eastern Conference. The win guarantees that if New York advances past the first round of the 2010 MLS play-offs that they will receive home field advantage in the conference final.
A cold night at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey did not put a damper on Hakoah spirits as they watched Jamaican midfielder, Dane Richards, masterfully place a shot past New England keeper Bobby Shuttleworth to put the home side up 1-0. Fans were on the edge of their seats in the second half as New England fought for a draw but central defender Tim Ream and goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul were up to the challenge. Then in injury time, Estonian midfielder Joel Lindpere gave New York their much needed insurance goal and sent the fans into the play-offs in style.
After full time, the players of New York thanked Hakoah members for coming out and showing their support. We hope that everybody got home safely and as a reminder, tickets for the play-off match on November 4th are on sale now. Hakoah members pay $18 while non-members pay $20.
