WOODBRIDGE, N.J. – What started out as a beautiful Sunday morning and relatively late kick-off for Hakoah, ended with a heartbreaking narrow defeat to the New Jersey division leaders, Woodbridge Hungaria. Manager Dov Glickman found himself with a headache of decisions to make with Joshua Pransky, Sjur Gundersen, Eyal Yechezkell and Phil Robinson all out of the squad for this weekend. Employing his regular 3-5-2 formation, the sky blues dominated possession through the first half.

A miscommunication in the back led to a turnover in the final third where Woodbridge made no mistake and took a 1-0 lead. Midway through the first half, Woodbridge would double their lead when a cross from the far side was one timed past Aleksey Nazarov. With Hakoah's midfield pushed up and looking to pull one back, the counter attack proved deadly as Woodbridge increased their lead on a half chance. Shortly thereafter, the whistle was blown and Hakoah was searching for answers to their dominating performance that wasn't translating to goals.

An optimistic team talk by the gaffer had the boys raring to go in the second half. Finally, Michel Asayag pulled one back for Hakoah. The celebration was short lived as a half chance was floated past the diving Nazarov once again giving the Hungarians a 3 goal lead. Hakoah continued to push and press for goals. Forward Saeed Sulemana-Baba was taken down in the box and the referee pointed to the spot. Sulemana-Baba stepped up and made no mistake scoring the club's first penalty kick in regular play this season. With things looking up, Hakoah was beaten again on a counter attack and for the third time, the Hungarians took a three goal lead.

That is when the onslaught came. Midfielders Jonah Silk and Omry Lifschitz played a crucial role in bringing the ball upfield and creating numerous opportunities for Asayag and Sulemana-Baba. Eventually, Hakoah pulled two back but it was not enough. Hakoah missed a crucial point and will take on cellar dwellers, Prestige International in Fairfield, New Jersey next weekend.
